Marco Schöller is Professor of Islamic History at the Westphalian University of Münster, Germany. He has been studying nineteenth-century travel literature and Western Orientalism for many years. Before 2014, Bulgaria was rather unknown to him as well, but this has changed drastically since then. Not to mention that researching and writing this book would have been less easy without the countless delicacies of the Bulgarian table.
